Join a collegial group of 21 anesthesiologists that enjoy a respectful and collaborative relationship with their surgical colleagues. Provide anesthesia for a 300-bed Level II trauma center in most areas of surgery at 2 sites: At the main campus, they cover 10 regular ORs, 1 cardiac room, an active endoscopy service, a moderate amount of radiology services (MRI, CT, and IR), minimal cath lab, and 2 CS rooms. The Ambulatory Surgery Center is located 5 miles from the hospital and runs 2-3 rooms daily. They have an active Labor and Delivery Unit with approximately 1800 deliveries per year and a 40% epidural rate. Anesthesiologists are able to choose their rooms from a rotating list each weekday to maintain skills in all areas.
The group has a fantastic call schedule with a lot of flexibility and ample time for rest! They work 11 weekends per year and always have 4 people on call. On the weekdays, 1st call person is in-house, but comes in at 5pm and leaves at 7am with the post call day off. 2nd and 3rd call do add-ons during the day and are typically done 7-10p, 5-8p, respectively. 2nd call can be called in periodically during the night, but they have the first pick of rooms the next day. The 4th call person covers OB between 7a-5p, and rarely gets called back past 5p. Typically, you will take 3-5 weekday calls per month. On the weekends, there are 4 people on call. Safety is a priority to the group, so this schedule allows call people to rest. Call is evenly distributed amongst all members but can be easily given up. We have a rotating list, so that all members have equal access to extra call. Furthermore, if you want to make extra money, there is often a volunteer shift on weekends from 7a-3p. They use a scheduling program call Qgenda which has an app on your phone, so it’s easy to track who is on-call at any time. We use a system of balanced compensation to prevent excessive competition for cases.
The group provides an excellent retirement plan. We have a 401K, Profit Share, and Defined Benefit Plan that allows many members to put over $100k per year into retirement! There is a 2-year partnership track with compensation at 75% the first year and 85% the second year. You can expect to make at least 400K your first year if you take 8 weeks of vacation, your assigned call allotment, and work an average schedule. While partnership is not a guarantee, all partnership track employees have made partner since the group's inception in 2007. They do a yearly review of partnership track employees, so that they are aware of their progress. Potential to make $600k+ as Partner. Leadership and representation at the hospital is imperative, so all members are welcome to serve on hospital committees and to attend shareholder meetings.
Lifestyle is important to the group, so vacation is very generous! You are guaranteed 8 weeks of vacation per year. Some members choose to take less whereas others take more (typical range is 4-12 weeks/yr). The vacation schedule is done in October for the following year, and members usually get their top 4 choices. Locum coverage is provided during popular weeks (Winter Holidays and summer) to allow more people to take time off. The group realizes that things come up during the year and are very accommodating about swapping weeks or making the schedule work so that you can get the time off you need.
